Context
Shira Medtech is a niche B2B manufacturer of surgical instruments selling on Shopify. Its core commercial term, “microsurgical clamp,” already ranked number one, so category search visibility was strong. The growth question was different: reaching B2B buyers who do not begin on Google, and earning the kind of relevant links that put the brand in front of surgeons, procurement, and distributors directly. Across 2025 the account grew total users about 14% year on year, and the gains concentrated in the link-driven channels rather than in search, which held roughly flat.
Challenge
In B2B surgical procurement, buyers rarely start with a search engine. Surgeons, procurement teams, and distributors buy from the brands they already know and trust.
- The decision is awareness-led. Demand is built long before a purchase is made, and when the need arises the buyer returns to the brand already in mind. The brand has to be known first.
- Shira already ranked number one on its core term, so search visibility was not the gap. Being present in the places where these buyers built that familiarity was.
- That presence had to be earned with a narrow surgical audience, through relevant and credible sources rather than broad-reach link volume.
Approach
MAAI built for earned, relevant links rather than volume. The work centred on B2B content published where the buyers already were, so credible sites and professionals would pick it up and link back.
- 01Published thought-leadership articles on LinkedIn aimed at the surgical and procurement audience, to seed visibility with the people who cite and share.
- 02Added FAQ schema across product and content pages to strengthen how those pages were understood and surfaced.
- 03Prioritised placements by audience relevance and buyer proximity over domain authority, so links came from sources the target buyers actually read.
Results
The link-driven channels grew sharply while overall search held flat.
- Referral traffic, LinkedIn and other referring sites combined, grew the user base to 118%.
- Visitors from other referring sites engaged longer, an average of 29 seconds against 16 the year before, a sign the links sent qualified traffic rather than incidental clicks.
- Event count across the link-driven channels rose by 137%.
- Against the whole account, new users grew 14.3% year on year.
- Through the same period Shira held number one on “microsurgical clamp,” so the brand grew its off-search demand while defending the commercial term it already owned.
Why it worked
For a narrow B2B brand, the value of a link is who it reaches. By publishing where surgeons, procurement, and distributors already spend time, and earning links from relevant sources, Shira more than doubled its link-driven referral traffic and brought in an almost entirely new audience, while its category ranking stayed at number one.
The right backlink strategy does more than add to Domain Authority: it brings the right visibility to the brand, the kind that adds to sales.
